His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Succession

A fellow dharma practitioner emailed me this link today. . .

The Karmapa and Ling Rinpoche to be His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Successor.

I attended the Monlam prayers for world peace in Bodhgaya in December of 2007 with the Karmapa. He has such a wonderful presence and compassionate heart. I believe he can live up to the task. His intelligence and perception is quite keen, and I was wishing I could have had tea with him when I was there just so I could talk with him.

The Peaceful Tibetan Protests in Chicago 2008

Well, I am going to add that I had attended the protests here in Chicago that were peaceful and to the point. The Tibetan community in the Midwest marched from Michigan Avenue to the Chinese Consulate. There were police riding on horseback to make sure nothing got "out of hand." The Chinese Consulate pointed their cameras through the blinds and took photos of the participants. For what? Funny to think that most of the Tibetan community are Buddhist and practice peace and there has been concern about their state of mind from the picture that has been painted by the Government of monks rioting etc. I find it quite absurd. I can see how there has been a growing frustration over the years, a simmering of resentment for being separated from loved ones and not having the freedom as refugees to travel back to their homeland. But most Tibetan people who practice Buddhism are well aware of the karma associated with such violent acts. I just hope they don't loose sight of this. And what about the younger generation whose culture is in danger? The situation is quite complex and seems to really just boil down to economics. Especially with the Olympics coming up. It is ludicrous to believe the His Holiness the Dalai Lama would intentionally want to create a ploy to destroy the "Games". Another passing the buck by a Government that doesn't want to accept any responsibility for their actions. Absolutely disgusting. Too bad we didn't pay more attention to humanity first. I guess one just has to experience things first hand to get a real taste of what it is like to live in such a situation. I thought that I would share some images, as a photographer of the protests. I will post my more recent images and one can see that there is some graphic nature to a few involving Tibetans holding images of the brutally murdered. One of whom happens to closely resemble a friend of mine that was living in the middle of it all in Lhasa. A place I had spent six weeks living a few years ago.

Let there be Peace for Tibet

My wish is that there will be peace in Tibet. The protests have opened the door to shedding some light to the international community that has been ignored for some time now as old news. The only reason it seems to have been underestimated is that most people have not been there to witness the abuses that have occurred to the Tibetan and the Chinese people under their current rule.
I worry that the more the protests continue the more the violence will continue. Is it worth losing more lives? More Buddhist practitioners when that is what the world needs most right now. More compassion is what we all need for each other. Hate only breeds more hate.
I have friends there, I was there a few years ago. It is ironic to me that the book I have been trying to publish on my travels there just seemed to be brushed aside with no
real consideration. Now that it just happens to be big news. . .I decided to publish it myself. Tired of trying to find an agent to find a publisher for it to be "worthy" of publication out into the public eye. I think it would be nice for people to see the place in pictures and read the stories I had that opened my eyes and touched heart.
Otherwise it is unexplainable. Things can only really be known through personal and individual experience.
I hope that this blog becomes a place for peace for Tibet. Only through peace can we resolve issues.
Thanks for reading. . .
